Hand carved magnets can add a smile to your kitchen while decorating your refrigerator; they can also be used in a number of other ways.  they are  eye catching in little frames. Character magnets are freestanding,  nice to group on a shelf,  line up on a window sill, or place under a plant. They can hang as ornaments with little metal strips or stand on little display stumps.

Magnets come in and one-of-kinds, small series and "old favorites".

The "Bunny With Blue Bird" is a one-of-kind.

One-of-kind means when I was carving it I made just one. A one-of-kind might remain the only one, or, depending on a lot of variables it might occur again in a slightly different form in the future.  Because an idea that appeals to me now  well might be an idea that appealed to me in the past, like a bird and bunny combination, there could be a  past a version of a current "one-of-kind" out there. After thirty-some years of carving it is hard to remember them all!

"Cats Stink" magnets are an example of "old favorite".

Over time details have changed on this popular character but once they began I  there hasn't been a Sunapee that I didn't have at least one or two. They always get smiles from passersby at the fair, who laugh and then read it out loud to their friend. I remember one year a mother saying  "But you like cats!" to her young son who had just picked a "Cats Stink" magnet as the one he wanted.  "I do like cats" he replied, "it's the mouse who doesn't!".

NEW NAKED MOUSE SERIES MAGNETS

The "Naked Mice" series started out a as new group of "naked mice".  By the time the set of nine were finished, a few had taken to wearing vests. (As they aren't wearing pants, they have kept the name!)

Over the years groups of these more natural style mice come along.   They are a fun category to specialize in collecting.

WINTER VALENTINE BUNNY MAGNETS

In New England, Valentine's Day arrives in snowy mid-Winter.  Wearing their mittens and LLBean boots , with their warm hearts and their knit scarves, these rabbits are ready to join Holiday decorations. SNOWBALL MOUSE MAGNET

A mouse that is cute with the paper Mache lumpy snow mice, or with a Winter magnet as shown here. He wears a drop seat snowsuit and LLBean boots.  Acorn hat is carved, the design on his scarf my favorite of this year.

I'm not sure what the caption for this photo should be. It looked to me like the mouse was  happily chatting away, however what the cat was thinking during this chat a little less clear.

SO CUTE DANCING IRISH MAGNETS

Another "old favorite". They are way too labor intensive, so I only make them at several years intervals when I've forgotten how long they take. (It's a lot of words to fit on a little shirt!). A little lady bug sits on the shamrock on her head, and she balances on either foot.

DISPLAY IDEAS

It is the easiest thing in the world to frame a magnet.  Find an empty frame and a backing that you like.
Glue something metal to the backing, (a big flat washer and a hot glue gun work great), that's it!
You have a frame display that you can snap different magnets in an out of anytime you like!
